Welcome to St Aidan’s Junior School – a Christian, caring and challenging environment for the education of young girls. St Aidan’s aims to support the development of confident young women who approach their studies, their sport and cultural pursuits with conviction and a sense of purpose. Girls benefit from a deliberate blend of “tradition” and innovative practice, drawing upon long-standing values of commitment, diligence and service, as well as teamwork and tolerance, established by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent.
St Aidan’s is a community – small enough for teachers to know all families but still able to provide facilities and experiences offered by larger schools. Our community is guided by the Anglican faith. We care for each individual; our aim is to provide opportunities for each girl to develop her knowledge and skills to the best of her ability. We offer a full and varied range of co/extra curricular activities, catering for a wide variety of ages, interests and abilities. We strive to recognise and to celebrate the successes and talents of every member of our community.
The Junior School caters for girls from Preparatory level to Year 7. The value and importance placed on class sizes is reflected in our Junior School. We endeavour to create an intimate environment where access to teachers is enhanced – both for children and parents.
The pastoral care systems and curricula developed for our girls have taken into consideration recent research into gender-based brain functioning, learning styles and group dynamics. Education for girls rather than education which includes girls is at the forefront of our thinking.
Our girls benefit from having continuity in their curriculum. Skill development occurs in a progressive manner from Preparatory Level to Year 7 within the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Studies of Society and the Environment, the Arts - Music, Art and Drama, Health and Physical Education, Languages Other Than English and Religious and Values Education. Students continue these learnings into their secondary years, ensuring a seamless development through the years and from Junior to Senior schooling. As a result, St Aidan’s is a P-12 school and, regardless of the year level, importance is placed on helping to develop critical thinkers who are confident, independent learners.
Extensive use of computers and information technology is made across the curriculum at all year levels. The teachers and students make use of learning technologies throughout the day in many subject areas - each classroom is equipped with a minimum of five computers. Students also have weekly access to computer laboratories where a sequential program is implemented to develop appropriate skills.
Those acquainted with the Junior School boast of its wonderful facilities – a very modern, self-contained precinct with air-conditioned rooms, ample and accessible computer facilities, and creatively-designed outdoor areas. We know, however, that a great school is not all bricks and mortar. The success of the Junior School lies with the dedicated teachers who understand the needs of girls and work to ensure that, as much as possible, individuals are nurtured and assisted in their growth and development.
The Junior School has made the world of difference to countless young girls. This is reflected by the number of old girls whose daughters have also enjoyed and continue to benefit from a St Aidan's education.
